What is a Child Contact Centre?
It is a safe, neutral environment where a child can meet a parent or family member they may not otherwise see.
What is it like?
The child/children are the most important people. We like to make it as comfortable as possible so the families and their children can enjoy themselves.
How are visits arranged?
Visits are by referral only. This could be by a Cafcass officer, social worker, solicitor for example. Visits should be made as far in advance as possible.
What should I bring to Contact?
We provide toys, puzzles, games, books and refreshments as well as an area for the children to play in. We also have toilet facilities. You may want to bring a favourite you, special drink and nappies.
How often can I come?
This depends on when the centre is open. Your solicitor or cafcass officer will help you to make arrangements. All arrangements are made via a referral agreement.
What happens if I cannot make the appointment?
Let your referrer and the centre know as soon as possible.
Do I have to meet my former partner?
Not if you don't want to. Please make it clear on the referral agreement if you don't want to and we will arrange separate waiting areas.
What do Child Contact members do?
Child Contact members will provide play equipment and refreshments and will generally manage the smooth running of the centre. In some circumstances workers may make notes on the contact session.
How much does it cost?
Costs are based on individual cases and are funded by a number of sources. Speak to the agent dealing with the referral, regarding your source of funding.
Equal Opportunities
The centre aims to offer an equal service regardless of gender, race, disability, sexuality, orientation or religion. Offensive behaviour will not be tolerated, any visitor acting this way will be asked to leave.
Complaints Procedure
The Child Contact Centre has a complaints procedure that can be viewed on request.
