About MFCC

MFCC has delivered a range of specialist services to women and children subjected to Domestic Abuse across North Powys since 1980. In 2024 we secured a new 5 year contract with Powys County Council to continue delivery of our much needed services.

We grew out of the feminist movement and our first service was a refuge run by women for women, the only safe place for women and children escaping violence in their homes. MFCC continues to believe that in order to provide a safe, supportive, integrated and holistic service to women we need to ensure that women only protected spaces are available and maintained to best meet their needs.

Since these times MFCC has grown its range and depth of services, providing specialist support through refuge and outreach projects, to women, men and children, as we accept that men experience domestic abuse too. MFCC is very proud that we were able in 2006 to open the first refuge in the UK for men and children, leading the way for others to follow. We also provide a well-being project as well as group work, programmes, education, training and awareness raising.

MFCC believe that due to gender inequality in our society women and girls are disproportionately affected by violence and abuse and, led by the Board, we are committed to combatting Violence Against Women (and girls), Domestic Abuse and Sexual Violence, that is the main purpose of the organisation.

MFCC believes that Domestic Abuse touches all our lives and all people from all communities have a role to play in eliminating abuse.

We are a local home grown charity and for over forty years our specialist services have been designed and developed specifically for delivery across all 839sq miles of North Powys.

Challenge – we are committed to challenging public attitudes to violence against women, domestic abuse and sexual violence through awareness raising with the aim to decrease its occurrence

Diversity – we champion a culture that values each other’s differences and promotes dignity, equality and diversity – all are welcome, all are respected

Accountability – we are accountable to the communities we work within, we will listen to, consult with and learn from our clients, empowering them to co-produce the design and delivery of services

Openness – we will be transparent about our work and share information appropriately, we are committed to a collaborative approach to ensure effective responses to VAWDASV, and will enable integrated pathways of support that promote prevention and earlier intervention

Accessibility – we will ensure our services are known and are available and accessible to all across North Powys.

Priorities

The delivery of holistic, effective and relevant services which are strengths based, needs led and trauma informed. We will empower through empathy, education and support, enabling clients to achieve positive outcomes.

We are committed to improving wellbeing and will promote skills, social and practical, to enable our people to maximise their potential, increase self-confidence and embrace independence.

We’ll offer support for the whole family to help reduce the impact of, and break the cycle of abuse, focusing on preventative services at the earliest opportunity to minimise escalation.

Children and young people experience and are affected by domestic abuse and we will continue to enhance our services to ensure we can best support them to be able to enjoy safe and healthy lives, empowering them to achieve their full potential.

The protection of the environment requires all our activities to be completed in a sustainable manner and MFCC are fully committed to achieve best environmental practices.

We will ensure we are a resilient and financially stable organisation. We will make best use of resources to ensure we have a good balance of quality and cost effectiveness.
