Services for Men

In March 2023 the CSEW reported that in the previous year over 750,000 men aged 16 years and over experienced a form of domestic abuse in England and Wales – You Are Not Alone.

Domestic abuse and sexual violence is not a female-only issue, it affects all genders, ethnicities, age ranges and sexualities, reinforcing the fact that domestic abuse does not discriminate and does affect men too. Domestic abuse is a choice that the abuser makes and is rooted in power and control, those experiencing abuse are not to blame.

MFCC accepts that men experiencing abuse may find it very difficult to access support because of several reasons including:

• The fear of not being believed
• The feeling of shame, embarrassment or reduced masculinity in identifying as a victim
• Fear of losing access to their children
• Fear of reprisals from their abuser

There is no excuse for domestic abuse and you have the right to access all our specialist domestic abuse services for support to not only survive your experiences but to thrive and move forward with your life.

MFCC’s range of specialist services are available for those men, women, children and young people experiencing or who have been affected by domestic abuse from a partner, ex-partner or from other family members regardless of gender, sexuality or ethnicity. Anyone who comes forward will be treated equally and respectfully.

MFCC is very proud of having opened in 2006 the first dedicated refuge in the UK for men and children and in 2013 we moved the service to an improved purpose built property which can accommodate up to four families. Davis House is a safe, comfortable modern refuge specifically for men and male led families. It has an office for support staff, a playroom for children and a secure garden. MFCC’s male refuge offers the same level of support and facilities as the female refuges.

We also have a gender neutral refuge, Meadow House, this can accommodate one family at a time, male or female led.
