Equalities and Inclusion

MFCC values are founded on gender equality and non-discrimination and we strive to support the elimination of discrimination, advance equality of opportunity, foster good relations between groups and protect and promote human rights in our service provision. MFCC aims to create a culture that respects and values each individual’s differences, that promotes dignity, equality and diversity and that encourages all individuals to develop and maximise their potential.

Domestic abuse can be found in all communities regardless of sexuality, gender, religion, ethnicity, economic status, culture and location. All of our services and interventions are inclusive, all are welcome and all will be respected.

Languages

We offer interpreting services via Language Line which can be accessed 24/7, 365 days of the year for individuals whose preferred language is not English. We can also support our work through the translation of our information and if you contact us we can support and ensure the correct translated materials are forwarded to you. We realise that not all people are able to read in the language they speak so are happy to help ensure you get the correct type of support in a way that works for you in a safe and confidential way.

British Sign Language

We have staff who can communicate in BSL and we also have access to interpreters and Deaf professionals when required.

LGBTQ+

If you identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, and /or transgender and you are experiencing domestic abuse please get in touch with MFCC, our services are available to you.

Much of the abuse an LGBTQ+ person experiences is the same as that experienced in heterosexual relationships, but MFCC recognises there are some aspects of abuse that are unique to LGBTQ+ people:

  • Threatening to out someone
  • Threats based on a person’s gender identity or sexual orientation
  • An abusive partner may coerce their partner into concealing the abuse to protect the image of the LGBTQ+ community
  • Intentionally misgendering, dead-naming or using the wrong pronouns
  • Denying access to gender affirming healthcare such as hormones
